unnamedIt’s been quite some time since we have seen a deep soul compilation come our way, so when A Crate Diggers’ Selection of Rare Soul was laid out before us we were definitely interested. There have been many rare, deep, funk compilations that went on to be legendary. It seemed that in the 90’s, besides Keb’s Deep Funk compilations, there were always some other one off, usually an import, that highlighted the often hard to get funk 45. The What It Is! box set came out on cd (and a handy seven inch box set), but it was mostly funky stuff. It was a great resource for funk heads at the time, but again, what about soul? What about people who want to get into the obscure stuff? If you were lucky, you dug up some of the Stax, Atlantic or the odd import compilation from the 60′ or 70’s…
