Facebook says it won’t be launching a music streaming service

Apple Music, TIDAL, and Spotify are currently battling for listeners’ attention and moolah, but there’s one tech company that’s steering clear of the streaming wars: Facebook.

Earlier this week, rumors suggesting Mark Zuckerberg’s social networking behemoth would be developing a streaming feature circulated with much fanfare. Despite Facebook recently entering into a partnership with major labels involving music video placement, many industry people were surprised by the site’s decision to join an already overcrowded landscape.

Today, however, a representative for Facebook has quashed those rumors, saying the business has “no plans to go into music streaming,” according to Billboard. Additionally, a source from a major label tells Billboard they haven’t spoken to Facebook about any such new product and were equally taken aback by the sudden news.

Although Facebook has expanded well beyond its social media roots, acquiring the likes of Instagram and WhatsApp, there’s no denying that Zuckerberg would’ve faced…
