Billy Joel…No Longer A Stranger

The Stranger, released in September 1977, was Billy Joel’s breakthrough album, winning two Grammys for the song “Just The Way You Are”. The track was his first top ten million -selling song, although it took Linda Ronstadt and Phoebe Snow to convince him to include it! It was later covered by many artists including Barry White.

Other songs on the album, “Moving Out”, and “She’s Always A Woman” (also covered by others), became hits as well. Another track ” Only The Good Die Young” was banned by Catholic radio stations, deemed as ‘anti-Catholic’. It became Columbia’s second biggest selling album after Simon and Garfunkel’s ‘Bridge Over Troubled Water” although it was kept off the number one slot by Saturday Night Fever!
